Shane Warne Adds to Another Cricket Controversy

Cricket they say is a gentlemans game but somehow that’s hard to digest. Because for as long as I can remember its never been a gentlemans game. Chess for example is a gentlemans game. That’s not to say that cricket is a slug fest involving monkeys, its good at best of times but definitely not Always

The latest controversy involving Shane Warne has again brought into the light the debate as to where the line has to be drawn between being aggressive & crossing the limits. The incident that Im referring to happened in the KFC Big Bash league, Australia’s own version of the IPL. Unlike the IPL this league doesn’t boast of the same publicity but involves some high class cricketing action. The individuals involved were Shane Warne(Yes he still plays the T20’s when he’s not advertising his poker games on twitter) & West Indian Marlon Samuels, another player who is no stranger to controversies. During the 1st innings Marlon apparently while bowling didn’t allow David Hussey to take a run by grabbing onto his shirt which is inexplicable! Even for club cricket. The videos the incident that you watch just amaze you into wondering as to what exactly he was thinking. That was done & dusted. But in the 2nd innings Shane Warne who always loves grabbing eyeballs took it a step further by abusing Marlon while he was batting , then throwing the ball at his body with the customary “F**k you Marlon”. Not the one to be out done Marlon hurled his bat towards Warne. Both have been punished with Warne even getting a match ban. All this in a tournament involving cricketers from around the world. When people anointed T20 cricket as “Masala” cricket I’m sure they didn’t expect so much mirch in it!

Cricket has never been stranger to such controversies. Infact these sort of incidents keep cropping up now & then. And Im not talking about the recent times only. Remember Dennis Lilliee kicking Miandad & Miandad charging towards him with his bat? That was probably one of the most disgraceful moments on a cricket fields. Sunil Gavaskar would probably say that the Aussie got away just coz the laws always favour non sub continental countries. For that matter even Navjoth Singh Siddhu had a major altercation with Aamir Sohail on the field where bats were pointed, tongues wagged. During the recent world cup SA’s FAF Du Plesis had a go at the New Zealand players. Another famous on field fight was the one involving Glen Mcgrath & Ramnaresh Sarwan. A lot has been discussed about Harbajan Singhs “Monkeygate” with Symonds & also his “slapgate” with Sreesanth. Why even the normally mild& unflappable Rahul Dravid got involved in a fracas with Michael Slater.

So why do these players get into such fights. A very common reason that the commentators(which you can even hear in the Shane Warne Video) give during such instances is that its coz these players play with a lot of passion & that they play with their heart on their sleeves. So the question is that can this be used as an excuse for a Virat Kohli to abuse every time he holds onto a catch? Worse still is that does it mean that the rest of the mild players like Dravid & Vettori or Misbah Ul Haq don’t play with equal passion just coz they don’t glare at the opposition or swear at them? Most of the times its just the antics to grab the eyeballs, none better than our very own Sreesanth. Another name that comes to mind is Andre Nel & who can forget that famous bat whirling dance Sreesanth did to annoy Nel. The one memory I have of contrasting notions about aggression on the field is during Indias tour to Autralia. Javagal Srinath bowled a bouncer to Ponting which hit his helmet as he was ducking. Srinath immediately raises his hand & apologises(which is not seen in the video I’ve posted) which he absolutely didn’t need to, and what does Ponting do? He begins abusing Srinath asking him to go back, one of the many reasons Ill never hail him as a great sportsman.

One would say that the cricketers of yesteryears didn’t indulge in sledging. Well that might be true but then how much proof do we have for it? Those were the days when there were probably 3 or 4 cameras in total on the ground. And not all the matches were telecasted live. These days atleast one of the 30 cameras will catch every minute antic of the player. Everything is scrutinied in detail. Today before you even know it, a tiny incident is blown out of proportion by the media. Players too seem to love to “play the camera” as they say. They know that millions are watching at home. Aggression has its place in cricket but it shouldn’t get out of hand. Everyone enjoys watching a bit of banter on the field. Who can forget the famous incident during the 96 world cup when Aamir Sohail after hitting a boundary off the bowling of Venkatesh Prasad asked him to go & fetch the ball, the bowler responded by getting him bowled next ball. That’s hair raising stuff, isn’t it? Also Javed Miandads antics with Kiran More will always be remembered in a jovial manner. It’s one of the reasons you’d watch the match over & over again! But do you feel the same when Sreesanth has a go at the batsman ball after ball or when the Aussie fielders & bowlers engage in so called “mental disintegration” of the batsmen?  So the line between being aggressive & rowdy is a very fine one. Things should never get physical in any sport but that is what has happened with the latest incident. What message do the youngsters who watch the game at home?

Everything That Is Wrong With Indian Cricket!

Before the start of the India England test series everyone had been bemoaning the fact that India had lost 8 test matches in a row against Australia & England in “away” conditions. Almost all the players especially the batsmen had received flak except for perhaps Virat Kohli. “They cant play swing, they cant adjust to pace, they don’t know how to hold the bat…..” Our bowlers too especially the pace bowlers who were expected to do well in helpful conditions were found wanting. Everything from ‘Too much 20 – 20’ to ‘too many advertisements’  had been quoted as the reason for the failures by the public… As usual! The age old theory of how the pitches in India weren’t competitive were put forward by the cricket pundits…. As usual

Leaving all that aside, I found the above score card courtesy cricinfo.com of a match between UP & Maharashtra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. And this one score card perhaps symbolises what is wrong with Indian Cricket. Here is a test match in which the side batting 1st i.e Maharashtra batted for the first 3 days! Yes 3 whole days amassing 700 plus runs without even being all out. Some of the batting scores there are mighty impressive indeed.A triple century! Wow K Jadav should replace Sachin Tendulkar at no.4 in the Indian team, shouldn’t he? When was the last time the Indian team scored 700? 0r 600? Or 500 in England? Looking at the bowling card probably will bring you tears, what with bowlers bowling 40 to 50 overs without anything to show for it. In reply the Suresh Raina led UP didn’t do badly either. On a 4th & 5th day pitch they managed 600 odd runs without being all out again. Our world cup wonder Piyush Chawla scoring more than a run a ball 150 to punish the opposition for making him bowl 50 overs in the sun. Either there wasn’t any wear & tear of the pitch or the batsmen were exceptional…. No prizes for guessing which one.

How can one expect India to produce International cricketers if such matches are played at the domestic level. How can you expect better crowds in the stadium? Not even 2 innings completed, below average cricketers made to look like super stars. How are the selectors supposed to judge players from such matches. We shout over roof tops that we don’t have “really fast” bowlers in the Indian team when Pakistan seem to produce one every month. Who would be stupid enough to want to be a fast bowler & bowl for 3 days on a pitch that resembles a highway! Whats worse is that Maharashtra have roped in former English all rounder Dermot Reeve as their coach to polish their skills & make them better cricketers. Is this how he trains them, by batting for 3 days? Isnt there something called sportsman spirit in the game? He came under severe criticism from the opposition captain Suresh Raina, one will never know if Suresh Raina would have done the same if he had batted first but we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. But Raina better forget that & worry about the fact that he scored a duck on a pitch that Piyush scored 150, pretty embarrassing for both of them! And then they ask what is wrong with Indian cricket…….

THE AUTORICKSHAW MENACE

I land in Bangalore at exactly 6:30 AM. Now when I mean “land” I mean the Volvo smoothly came to a halt at Koramangala (or so I was told as I have no idea about anything in Bengaluru). The moment I got down from the bus 5 auto drivers swooped in on me each one vying for my luggage. I was indeed thrilled by the hospitality. I was like “Damn these guys are so helpful!” Finally one among the 5 won the battle & guided me to his chariot. “Forum Mall” I said. “No problem banni banni(come come)” He said. I sat in the auto & he started off & I realised that the meter wasn’t down. “Meter meter” I said.  He turned rudely all of a sudden & said “What meter at 6:30 AM”. Ok so I asked him how much it would cost me. He said 80 bucks. Now I remember my wife(she knows Bengaluru much better than me ) telling me back home that the bus stop would be very close, probably about 10 mins from the mall so I am pretty sure that it wouldn’t cost 80 bucks. I argued with him & he argued back. He told me I could leave the auto very well knowing that I would be helpless with 2 bags, not knowing the place &  no other auto driver willing to help me as they too would be one of his lakeys.

Now how many of you would have had similar experiences. Im sure anyone who’s travelled outside his home town in a new place would have to encounter such experiences. My friend who stays in Bangalore itself has to face this on a daily basis so what am I? And how helpless do you feel? Imagine we are Indians & we ourselves struggle. Then what about foreigners who visit our country. These guys rip them apart. And no wonder people have so few good things to talk about us. Has this issue ever been raised in a major way?

One of my friends who visited Delhi recently told me of a similar incident where their hotel was 200 meters away but they didn’t know it. They asked one of the auto guys & he said 50 bucks. Imagine the horror on my friends face when the auto stops 1 minute later in front of their hotel. When he stared at the driver , he just shrugged his shoulders. He began to argue with the driver, 5 to 6 other drivers came & surrounded him. Now what can he do in a strange new land? He paid up & walked away.

And they manage to get away with all this. Everyone is talking of corruption. We talk about ministers, businessmen , govt officials being corrupt. Aamir Khan even went on to the extent of calling us doctors corrupt. But why doesn’t anyone say anything about this “stealing in broad daylight” & that too EVERYDAY!!! Why wont anyone take any actions. The problem is that the locals are too busy to get involved in this as they just want to finish off their daily routine as soon as possible & outsiders are just too helpless to do anything. There are no helplines to call, police will shoo away such complaints & the so called “prepaid auto stands” are a farce coz there have been instances when the auto driver demands more money on the way to the destination saying “road is not good, traffic is diverted, people in the prepaid auto stands don’t know this”

In one week I have had 2 such experiences. The 2nd time I clicked the drivers & his auto pic. I don’t really know why I did that, I was just plain angry. He ran away when he realised what I was doing & hence the blurred picture. I just wish I could put up this picture somewhere it would help this matter. Maybe a facebook page where everyone can contribute in a similar manner. But all this is of no use till some action is taken against these guys.

Love Marriage Or Arranged Marriage

www.facebook.com/LoveYaArrange.

TO LOVE OR NOT!!!! This has always been the dilemma. They say that those who are in a relationship want to get out of it & those who aren’t, desperately want to know what it feels like to be in love!!! A lot has been said about Love Vs Arranged marriage. I recently read a message which said “In love marriage you marry your own girl friend & in arranged you marry someone else’s girlfriend” Unfortunately this is true for many! Ofcourse there’s also the “A known devil is better than an unknown God” & “In an arranged marriage you sleep with a stranger after being told for years before that to stay away from strangers”

Well all this is ofcourse said in good humor. But marriage is a serious issue. The rate at which marriages are breaking these days is alarming & its said that its more common with love marriages! The unfortunate thing is that the very qualities that impress couples when they are in”love” irriates them when they are married. And then comes the “you have changed, you were not like this before marriage” etc etc. But that doesn’t mean arranged marriages are all hunky dory. Many couples cite adjustment issues as the reason for divorce coz they cant adjust to their partners post marriage.

WHAT EXACTLY MAKES A RELATIONSHIP WORK
This is a question I guess that many people must be asking. And you know what? I have no idea as to what the answer is Being from the medical field I’ve seen that relationships here are supposed to be a 5 yr deal. You join the college, find a partner, go around till the end of the course & then get married to someone else .The only problem is that one of the partners wouldnt be knowing about the deal & so ends up being BETRAYED.I can see some of my friends cringing but well its the truth. This is the age where you see so many people getting into relationships just for the EXPERIENCE.After one yearr experience its time to look at greener pastures But dont get me wrong coz among all these people there’ll be that one sweet loving romantic couple, THE COUPLE!!!! The couple who’ll just make you say “Oh I wish I could have what they have” and Im not talking about the ice cream that they are feeding each other. Then what makes this couple different from the others. ACCORDING TO ME-
1)LOVE :They are obviously in love with each other…..inspite of each other. That’s the big difference. No two people can be the same. There are those who say “They are made for each other coz they are exactly alike” WHAT RUBBISH!!! How can two people be exactly alike & even if they are then whats the point of being with them coz its like looking at yourself in the mirror, always talking like you, always doing what you want, always knowing what to expect coz well….he/she is EXACTLY LIKE YOU! Where will be the surprise element, the suspense that’ll keep a relationship going? Wouldnt it all be just boring? But at the same time it also doesnt mean that 2 completely different people will celebrate their diamond jubilee wedding anniversary coz opposites may attract but they cant blend(I made that up )…. I would imagine that it would be really really tough to be with someone who is nothing like you. So in the end it all comes to how much you LOVE your partner. So does Love marriage or arranged marriage matter here?

2)EXPECTATIONS- “I dont expect anything from you,i just love you no matter what” How many times have you heard this in movies as well as real life. Mind you there’s absolutely no harm in saying this IF in fact you actually mean it. But the problem is that most often you do expect something or the other from your loved one & when you dont get it you feel that you arent COMPATIBLE. Expectations are natural, if you dont expect from the one you love who else would you expect from? Your boss? your gardner? Expectations are the same whether its love or arranged marriage

3)TALK: Talking to your partner.Anybody can say “I love you”… people say that to their dogs too. But you gotta talk more than that to keep your relationship going. Talk about your day, discuss about your problems, talk about your EXPECTATIONS coz your partner cant always GUESS what you want so that when you talk about what you want you’ll solve point number 2.Along with the talking there is nothing wrong in doing something special once in a while for your loved one too Surprise him/her, make your partner feel special, appreciate the good stuff in him/her.I feel it would go a long way in making the relationship stronger. Again this applies to both love & arranged marriage without any exception

4)COMPATIBILITY: Again related to point number 2. What exactly does it mean to be compatible? For most people it means something that should come naturally but I beg to differ. Compatibility in a relationship means to ADJUST! Its all about adjusting to your partner. In an ideal world both the  individuals in a relationship are equally understanding & adjusting but well this isnt an ideal world so atleast one of the two has to try & go that extra mile for the other. One of the two has to adjust to the mood swings, the temper of the other so that things dont get out of hand. Like i was telling a friend of mine the other day that living with me wouldnt be easy & the one who does will have to have a lotta patience to do so

And if infact you do manage to do all these things and walk the aisle then the next question would be what makes a marriage work?
Simple…1234! Well atleast you would think that wont you.But here again there are a few problems. How many times have you heard of couples who’ve been going around for 4 yrs but suddenly find themselves incompatible soon after they are married…Lets go through the points again
1)LOVE : No time for love coz many couples feel that now that they have each other they can focus on their careers. And in doing so they lose the closeness that they shared before marriage which will eventually lead to the “You have changed after marriage” syndrome. So whether before or after marriage NEVER TAKE YOUR PARTNER FOR GRANTED.

2)EXPECTATIONS: When you’re just a couple your expectations are different from that when you’re married. Something in your partner which seemed cute when you were going around might just seem plain irritating once you start living with him.Doesnt mean that you have to pack your bag & run away. Ill add to this in point number 4.

3)TALK : Just coz your married doesnt mean that anything about this point has to change. Infact this holds even more true once you’re married so that there is no shortage of romance in the relationship so ill keep this point exactly the same.

4)COMPATIBILITY: This according to me is the most important one. While you’re dating, if you have a fight with your partner-you’re really angry-you’ll go back to your respective homes-after some time you’ll start missing each other-he/she msgs saying “I miss you so much honey” & VOILA! PROBLEM SOLVED!
But once you’re married & are living together. You have a fight-you’ll ignore each other-you see him in the living room watching tv which makes you even more angry coz it MEANS that he doesnt care-you go to the kitchen & somehow ACCIDENTLY few vessels drop which obviously makes a lotta noise ,which makes him mad coz APPARENTLY she’s doing it on purpose….& VOILA! DIVORCE….coz we are not compatible!

So in the end it all boils down to the individuals in a relationship. Don’t blame Love or arranged marriages for failure of marriages. If you want it work, it can work unless you have made a very very very bad choice in choosing your partner which unfortunately again is your own fault!

Introspection ... Wordpress Style!

The Confused Phase
I wanted to blog, I thought I had loads of ideas & that thousands of people would flock their computers just to catch a glimpse of what I wrote so I started a blog after a lot of research. And that research mainly focused on whether I choose Wordpress or the one that sounds like Clogger. Once I decided to use Wordpress(for no particular reason back then) I was all excited. I created the profile with my very own name in the top bar! Ah! My name! My ego was on cloud 9. Went to “New Post” & realized that I was not good enough to blog! So I did the easiest thing that I could think of. I went to Youtube & uploaded the “Nikes 1st cricket commercial” video. Then the wait began. I began checking everyday. On the 3rd day or so the page visits went from 0 to 1. Wooooohooo I had my 1st visitor! Thank God to that one soul who finally came & saw it. I tried to find a way to track him down & mail him an official thank you letter but that ofcourse was’nt possible.

The Blog Phase
Every blogger worth his salt will tell you that the “visitors” & the “comments” on his blog excite him! Now that I knew that there was atleast this one guy out there I began a barrage of posts… Within 3 days I posted few videos, an article on torrents & what not. The next 2 months seemed to be so so so dead! Nobody came! I mean nobody! Not even that 1st guy! I knew I should’ve chosen Flogger over Wordpress…or was it Clogger… I don’t know but Im sure more than 1 visitor would’ve come on Slogger.

The Damage Control Phase
Now I was certain that if this blog had to serve any purpose I gotta stop waiting & do something. I started posting a steady stream of articles, some good & some pathetic. And I did something extra. I joined facebook. So I began posting the articles on my wall (Ofcourse Wordpress didn’t have the auto share with facebook like they do now) The poor guys on the my friends were fooled into visiting my blog & slowly the visitors increased, not by much. Maybe 10 or so which was definitely more than the 1 which I was happy with on the 1st day. Monthly visitors increased to about 45 or so & once hit 70. Life was good!

1st Retirement
The sudden interest that I had slowly began to fade away. People were visiting but not a single comments, not a single “like”. Man cannot live on bread alone, he needs his ego fed too. Im not someone with an iron will, I give up very easily so I did the best thing! I disappeared from the blogging scene. Infact I didnt even open my blog site for about 6 months.

The “Im Back” Phase
One day after 6 months or so I just logged into my account & I noticed that the last 6 months showed a steady stream of visitors, not much about 20 to 30 per month even though I hadn’t even logged in! Yeah that really amused me! So people do come here! I posted with gusto for the next 4 months & was happy with the response

2nd Retirement
The topics began fading, the mind stopped working. I kept getting flashes of brilliant ideas but when I sat to write them out I couldn’t go past the 1st two or three sentences. I realized that it was time to leave. It was time to give up once again and that’s something Im really good at!

The Daily Post Era
I came back somewhere around the february of this year. I logged into Wordpress with a lotta difficulty coz I had forgotten my password, they sent me a temporary one which no one would remember even if they tried & was pleasantly surprised with the better, sleeker & a livelier interface. But for me the best part was the “The Daily Post” initiative along with the “Featured Post” & “Freshly Pressed” features. Wordpress had finally become a “reading” site along with the “writing” site. I became a part of the daily post challenge & the results are here to see for everyone! I have readers visiting my site, commenting & also discussing the posts! A thousand readers a month is definitely a big improvement from 50…don’t you think so? :-D So 3 years with this site has definitely been a great ride so far & hopefully this time Im here to stay :-D

The Battle Of The Ages

The "Daily Post" Challenge for today is a good one & so I thought I would give it a try :-D

Ryan17 : Hi Im Ryan. Young, smart & talented. I think Im the best there was, the best there is & the best there will be! Who are you?
Ryan27 : Wow! Im Ryan too! And Im much smarter, more talented & wiser with age. And your right about the “best there will be” atleast sonny.
Ryan17 : Wiser with age is just a nice way of saying “Im old”. Ewwww your 27??? That’s like …old man! That’s like in the year 2011. I guess by then people will talk to each other online more than in person.
Ryan27 : Errr…. Your right about the online part actually. Oh and come on, 27 is not old! Im like the most eligible bachelor, you’re just a loser kid with an attitude problem.
Ryan17 : Who you calling loser, Im 17, I have all the time in the world ahead of me, unlike you. Chicks dig me
Ryan27 : Girls don’t “dig you”. They just find you cute, that’s all! Havent you heard that girls your age prefer guys my age?
Ryan17 : (angry) That’s true. They think being with old men like you makes them more matured & more in demand. Bah! That’s the only thing you have going for you so don’t be so happy about it. Don’t forget that I have 10 more years to do all the exploring I need.
Ryan27 : (Now angry) That’s true too. But I make money now. And girls love guys who can pay for them right? And what do you plan to do in those 10 years?
Ryan17 : Ok I don’t care about the girls, I have other things that make me better than you.
Ryan27 : Like what sonny?
Ryan17 : Like… I don’t use geeky words like “sonny”. I have so many things I still can do! So many adventures to see, so much to explore.
Ryan27 : I’ve done it all. Flying, skiing, snowboarding, girls, money…what else? Its not that big a thing. After sometime you get bored.
Ryan17 : I can become rich & successful. I know for sure that I can become the next Mark Zuckerberg when Im 27
Ryan27 : 1st of all Mark Zuckerberg was still dating his girlfriend when you’re 17 which makes the example redundant coz there is no Facebook yet for you! And even I made plans of being a millionaire when Im 27.
Ryan17 : Are You?
Ryan27 : Not even close.
Ryan17 : See you’re an even bigger loser than I thought. Im sure you didn’t have any planning, any goal, that’s why.
Ryan27 : I had all that. But then everyone cant be a Zuckerberg. There are other things which come in the way. Studies, work, responsibilities. Things that cant be fast forwarded. Luck only plays a small part in ones life & that too all are not blessed with good luck, there’s something called bad luck too!
Ryan17 : Now that’s a long boring lecture which only a 27 yr old could come up with.
Ryan27 : You might think that now but as you get older you’ll know better.
Ryan17 : Atleast I can run faster.
Ryan27 : I don’t need to, I have my car. I can also buy whatever I want.
Ryan17 : Yeah but you have a bigger waistline. I don’t have to sit in an office all day.
Ryan27 : Yeah but I don’t have to answer anyone.
Ryan17 : Yeah but you have to look after others, others look after me.
Ryan27 : I know to play golf.
Ryan17 : Yuck I don’t even wanna know how to play golf.Oh boy then am I lucky coz right now I have no responsibilities at all! No money problems or work problems. I can do whatever I want. But I do wanna grow up fast.
Ryan27 : That’s true. But then why you wanna grow up? Isnt it the best life? I wish I were a student again!
Ryan17 : Nah dude… There’s no freedom. I don’t have money of my own. Who wants to be stuck in this boring classroom. I wanna work. Explore. I wanna be the 27 yr old whom both the younger & older chicks wanna die to be with.
Ryan27 : Trust me boy, Ur much safer & happier in the classroom. Once you come out you’ll know the harsh reality of the world outside. Now you’re protected. Freedom is over rated. And yeah girls or rather chicks that you keep talking about. Those will happen when it has to happen. The more you catch a butterfly the more it runs away, but you sit still & it’ll come to you.
Ryan17 : Huh? Why are we talking about butterflies? Do people your age call chicks butterflies?
Ryan27 : Now that was a wasted example. Just forget the example & take the rest.
Ryan17 : Btw does Pamela Anderson still look as hot on the beach during your time.
Ryan27 : Not really, and now there are better ones too ;-)
Ryan17 : Arent we supposed to argue the other way round, are you supposed to support your age & me mine?
Ryan27 : That’s the problem sonny, there’s no argument at all! Coz Im wiser so trust me when I say that “The grass is always greener on the other side”

Stairway To The Room

Well I basically clicked this picture for no reason but when I saw it, the 1st thing that came to my mind were two very famous songs –‘Stairway to Heaven’ & ‘The Room At The Top Of The Stairs’. One is an all time favourite & the other is my favourite. The stairs in the picture lead to my room so no guessing as to which one is my favourite song of the two.  At the end of these stairs is neither heaven nor the room where all the “stuff” that happens in the song so its actually as useless as the picture.

And if you wanna get philosophical about it then I guess you’ll remind me, just like how my grade 3 teacher ,that it would also mean “Failure is the stepping stone to success”.  To be frank I didn’t click it thinking about that coz these steps are far too cool to be equated with that saying . I mean shouldn’t the stone for that quote be more battered than these? But then how many times has one heard this saying. When you’re down, your friends say it to you & when your friends are down, you say it to them. Either way it does get said a lot. Its like a rule that you have to say it or else you’re not motivating the person who’s ‘down’. But then it doesn’t always hold true coz there are a number of people who have to just go through life suffering one failure after another! And those who lead an average life despite putting in all the hard work! So you cant really blame them if they do succumb to failure right? What then?

This is where some wise guy out there who bounced back after being beaten down over & over again came up with the “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. Now that covers all the bases, doesn’t it? Somehow even I can relate to it. I mean just coz you failed once or twice or many times doesn’t automatically mean that you’re gonna succeed & make it big right? You only become wiser or lets say stronger. You learn what is right for you & what is beyond you. Now don’t even get me started with ‘Nothing is impossible’ coz that quote is far from true. It does sound cool but ‘cool’ doesn’t get you through life. I mean what do shoe makers know anyways?(Impossible is Nothing)  Im more of the ‘ Aim for the stars, you’ll atleast reach the clouds’ kinda guy. So basically what I was saying was that you become stronger & you get bolder in life infact. And that’s what I guess success means. In the end it all comes to going out there EVERYDAY & giving your heart out at whatever that you do. Its not always about winning, not always about being the best. Sometimes ‘ordinary’ will do just fine. You have guys who become successful by chance & then there are those who don’t despite years of struggle but still don’t complain coz they love fighting it out!

So in the end life is about living each day as it comes. Getting up everyday & facing life & its challenges with enthusiasm. Coz there’s no point living your life if your not enjoying it… So lets just end it with a “Don’t worry, be happy’ ;-)

Baby Thoughts!

Life seems to be pretty hectic these days. I wake up early in the morning…well not exactly early but early enough to be called early. I rush through with the morning routine with barely a glance at the newspaper which I so religiously go through otherwise & rush to the hospital ….. All coz Im posted in the Labour Theatre & I have to be there at 8 sharp coz God forbid there be a delivery.

And once you get there finally life seems to be a drag. You monitor , monitor & MONITOR! And then ofcourse relax in the air conditioned Interns Lounge. Hey come to think of it life ain’t that bad there after all! Except for the poor screaming women that is….. and jus when you think that you can fall asleep comes that one screaming woman who’ll scare the daylights out of you…..

And then you go through the routine…. Monitor, preparation, scrub, drape & PUSH PUSH PUSH…. Not me, her!!  After what seems to be ages, again for her comes that deep breath of relief when a crying baby is finally out…. It’s a boy! And a healthy one at that…. He’s quickly suctioned & taken to the incubator where he’s checked thoroughly & later given his 1st bath….. wrapped in whites, looking all fresh you cant help but admire this li’l handsome boy

I look at him lying there so innocently with an occasional sigh blissfully unaware of everything around him. Ignorance is definitely bliss. I wonder if I should tell him that life ain’t gonna be like this always. That its all gonna go downhill from here on. Once he’s out of this cozy incubator which now seems to be his world, he’ll have problems galore. He’ll be crying & for a while no one would know why. Being nude won’t be cute after a while. There’ll be school & then worry about math, worry about that bully in class who’s gonna make his life miserable, that teacher who’s gonna find fault with him for everything. Should I tell him that he’ll have to worry about his grades or that there’s gonna be that so called BAD company that he’ll have to stay away from. Maybe I should tell him that he’ll have a friend who’ll backstab him or that girl who made him a million promises will one day just walk away making him feel worthless. Should I tell him that this is a competitive world & to survive he’ll have to be as ruthless & as selfish as the others .I can tell him that hard work rarely pays & being selfish is the only way to make it big around here.Every step in life is nothing but filled with problems & that he’ll one die either of stress or due to all d junk food that he ate to beat the stress or his nagging wife ;-)

He shivers, moves a li’l & lets out a small cry. He’s reading my thoughts I guess. I feel sad…. Maybe I should tell him the good things. Life ain’t that bad afterall right. His loving parents would see that he has everything that he could ever ask for. Schools gonna be a great place learn, meet new friends & it’ll be the best phase of his life, He’s gonna study hard… he wouldn’t have to worry about the bully coz he can stand up to anybody. I can tell him about those friends who’ll always be there for him no matter what, they’ll be his partners in crime & also pillars of support. Heartbreak or no,a wonderful girl will come into his life who’ll hold his hand & make him feel the luckiest guy in the world. I can tell him that he’ll have. I should remind him that there’ll be a lotta pressure but the trick is to be confident enough to deal with them all. I can tell him that the world is competitive one but he doesn’t have to be a part of it, he can make an identity of his own.

He smiles… he likes the idea I can tell or maybe he just thinks that I look funny…. I decide not to tell him anything. He’ll learn on his own, afterall there’s no fun in watching a movie if you already know whats gonna happen

RELATIONSHIPS- Let me give it a try :-)

Now before you all assume that Im actually getting into a relationship let me assure that this is not what Im talking about coz I wouldnt reveal it if I did :-D.One of my friends here in mlore who considers himself to be an expert on relationships has been bugging me to explain my take on the whole issue so I finally decided to do it. Wat better time to post it than just befoe Valentines Day!:-D And Im posting it between the 2 halves of my story ALL IN A DAYS WORK  just to prolong the suspense :-D
So what exactly are we talking about here.
WHAT EXACTLY MAKES A RELATIONSHIP WORK
This is a question I guess that many people must be asking. And you know what? I have no idea as to what the answer is :-D Being from the medical field I've seen that relationships here are supposed to be a 5 yr deal. You join the college, find a partner, go around till the end of the course & then get married to someone else :-D.The only problem is that one of the partners wouldnt be knowing about the deal & so ends up being BETRAYED.I can see some of my friends cringing hehe but well its the truth. This is the age where you see so many people getting into relationships just for the EXPERIENCE.After one yr experience its time to look at greener pastures :-D But dont get me wrong coz among all these people there'll be that one sweet loving romantic couple, THE COUPLE.The couple who'll just make you say "Oh I wish I could have what they have" and Im not talking about the ice cream that they are feeding each other. Then what makes this couple different from the others. ACCORDING TO ME-
1)LOVE :They are obviously in love with each other.....inspite of each other. That's the big difference. No two people can be the same. There are those who say "They are made for each other coz they are exactly alike" WHAT RUBBISH!!! How can two people be exactly alike & even if they are then whats the point of being with them coz its like looking at ur self in the mirror, always talking like you, always doing what you want, always knowing what to expect coz well....he/she is EXACTLY LIKE YOU!Where will be the surprise element, the suspense that'll keep a relationship going? Wouldnt it all be just boring? But at the same time it also doesnt mean that 2 completely different people will celebrate their diamond jubilee wedding anniversary coz opposites may attract but they cant blend(I made that up :-D ).... I would imagine that it would be really really tough to be with someone who is nothing like you. So in the end it all comes to how much you LOVE your partner.
2)EXPECTATIONS- "I dont expect anything from you,i just love you no matter what" How many times have you heard this in movies as well as real life.Mind you there's absolutely no harm in saying this IF in fact you actually mean it. But the problem is that most often you do expect something or the other from your loved one & when you dont get it you feel that you arent COMPATIBLE. Expectations are natural, if you dont expect from the one you love who else would you expect from? Your boss? your gardner?
3)TALK: Talking to your partner.Anybody can say "I love you"... people say that to their dogs too.But you gotta talk more than that to keep your relationship going.Talk about your day, discuss about your problems, talk abt your EXPECTATIONS coz your partner cant always GUESS what you want so that when you talk about what you want you'll solve point number 2.Along with the talking there is nothing wrong in doing something special once in a while for your loved one too :-) Surprise him/her, make your partner feel special, appreciate the good stuff in him/her.I feel it would go a long way in making the relationship stronger.
4)COMPATIBILITY: Again related to point number 2. What exactly does it mean to be compatible? For most people it means something that should come naturally but I beg to differ. Compatibility in a relationship means to ADJUST! Its all about adjusting to your partner. In an ideal world both d individuals in a relationship are equally understanding & adjusting but well this isnt an ideal world so atleast one of the two has to try & go that extra mile for the other. One of the two has to adjust to the mood swings, the temper of the other so that things dont get out of hand.Like i was telling a friend of mine the other day that living with me wouldnt be easy & the one who does will have to have a lotta patience to do so :-)
And if infact you do manage to do all these things and walk the aisle then the next question would be what makes a marriage work?
Simple...1234! Well atleast you would think that wont you.But here again there are a few problems. How many times have you heard of couples who've been going around for 4 yrs but suddenly find themselves incompatible soon after they are married...Lets go through the points again
1)LOVE : No time for love coz many couples feel that now that they have each other they can focus on their careers. And in doing so they lose the closeness that they shared before marriage which will eventually lead to the "You have changed after marriage" syndrome. So whether before or after marriage NEVER TAKE YOUR PARTNER FOR GRANTED.
2)EXPECTATIONS: When you're just a couple your expectations are different from that when you're married.Something in your partner which seemed cute when you were going around might just seem plain irritating once you start living with him.Doesnt mean that you have to pack your bag & run away.Ill add to this in point number 4.
3)TALK : Just coz your married doesnt mean that anything about this point has to change. Infact this holds even more true once you're married so that there is no shortage of romance in the relationship so ill keep this point exactly the same.
4)COMPATIBILITY: This according to me is the most important one. While you're dating, if you have a fight with your partner-you're really angry-you'll go back to your respective homes-after some time you'll start missing each other-he/she msgs saying "I miss you so much honey" & VOILA! PROBLEM SOLVED!
But once you're married & are living together. You have a fight-you'll ignore each other-you see him in the living room watching tv which makes you even more angry coz it MEANS that he doesnt care-you go to the kitchen & somehow ACCIDENTLY few vessels drop which obviously makes a lotta noise ,which makes him mad coz APPARENTLY she's doing it on purpose....& VOILA! DIVORCE....coz we are not compatible!

And if infact everything is fine between you & your partner then-
1)It might not Work coz religion might come in the way
2)It might not work coz she's a bitch or he's an asshole
3)It might not work coz you just dont have the money that he/she wants which again makes he/she an asshole/bitch
4)It might not work coz he/she was in it just to have a good time which again makes he/she you know what

What You Cant Say No To!

The "Daily Post" Challenge for today is WHAT YOU CANT SAY NO TO... Well the problem for me is not saying no, its the saying YES thats more of an issue.

Things that I cant seem to say YES to-

1) Wake up early in the morning- I guess the one who came up with the "Early to bed, early to rise..." needs to have a good one on one talk with me.

2) Exercise- Just the thought of all the pain & sweat & tears makes me go "Early to bed & rise as late as possible

3) Studying- What a bore though I must admit that this has kept away from pills, coz who needs sleeping pills, drugs when just the sight of a book can put you to sleep :-D

4) Veg Food - Pffftt... Why just stick to vegetables? Might as well eat the plastic bags, couch covers, paper wrappers

5) Turning The Other Cheek - How can you even think of telling someone who has backstabbed you "Its ok mate, my front's all yours too"

6) Forgive & Forget - Oooooh. This will have many of you shaking your heads sadly. Yeah I cant say YES to this. Coz a glass once cracked cant be fixed, you have to replace it!

7) Young Healthy Beggars- Im not giving you my money just coz you're too lazy to work for it.

8 )Watching Golf- Surely that cant be a sport! Toddlers hit the ball wherever they want to & they are amusing to watch too!

9) Animated Movies - Sorry not my animated cup of tea.

10)Blogger- Sorry guys, I have WORDPRESS! ha ha

P.S- Im glad that Im not the one bugging Classyrose today...Or Am I :-D Yes/No

Important- Dont forget to caste your vote here for the "Weekly Photo Voting"- Boundaries

What Do You See???

Its raining outside. The roll of thunder, the flash of lightning, it seems like the Gods are at war with each other. And well, if there’s only one God then he must be mighty angry to make so much noise! I sit by the window with a cup of hot steaming coffee , hoping that Im not the cause of Gods anger & also thanking my luck that Im all cozy & comfy inside when its pouring Scoobies & Toms outside ( I use the names of only the most famous cats & dogs )

I try to look outside through the glass but it just isn’t possible coz all I see is the li’l drops gliding across the window pane & distorting the rainy picture outside. The tree looks like a glob of green, the moving worm is actually a car, the red traffic light seems to have broken into a thousand red spots splattered all over the glass. It all seems so unreal…

And then you wonder, isn’t life exactly like this? You see everyone through a watery film choosing to look for what you want rather than what it actually is. One craves for life to be exactly how one wants it to be & people to be like how one wants them to be. And when its not like this then you hear stuff like “Life isn’t fair” & “Men are dogs & women are bitches”. The guy wearing oversize jeans with rajor sharp pointy hair is a freak coz that’s what freaks are supposed to look like in your head. The woman crossing the street with her head held high is a bitch with an attitude coz according to you normal people should walk like they have a gun pointed to their head. The beggar across the street is the most useless person on earth coz if wasn’t he would be working instead of begging right?

So its all according to one’s own perception. So in the end is there actually something that’s good & bad or right & wrong …. Or is it just what You &  Me see? J

What keeps you up at night?

Its 10 PM. I just blogged my views on the “what gets better with age” topic on the Post A Day Challenge on Wordpress & as usual the moment I posted it I went to the FRESHLY PRESSED section to check whether my name has been displayed. And as usual its not… DAMN! But while I do that I see that the next topic on the POST A DAY is already put up! And its an interesting one at that. Now Im confused as to whether I should post a blog or not coz Im sleepy & ironically the topic is “What keeps you up at night” …. Darn Im so not fit to write about this

Mainly coz I sleep so well!!! Not  just at night but in the mornings, afternoons & evenings as well!!! Infact just the sight of the bed is enough & you’ll see me dozing & moving towards it like a zombie. Unlike some people who are kept awake by problems & worries I sleep through them… Not funny guys :S

But that doesn’t mean that nothing keeps me awake. Watching a scary movie just before going to bed doesn’t help at all. Now when I say scary movie, I don’t mean the SCARY MOVIE part 1,2,3 etc :-S Just making that clear. I think horror movies sound better. Yeah those do keep me awake. And Im not ashamed to say that I’ve woken up many a times in the middle of the night to look under the bed & hope that the ghost which was in the movie that I just watched isn’t getting too cozy under my bed! Actually I just realized that I am ashamed of it but its too late now!

And the goals & ambitions in life do keep me up sometimes but that’s only coz Im confused as to why I have those goals? Nobody told me to go get them. Nor am I prepared to put in all the hard work necessary when I can otherwise lead a happy & comfortable life… So I worry about myself, thinking maybe there’s something wrong with me. But these thoughts plague me only for a few minutes… after that I sleep like a baby for the next 10 hours!! :D

The thoughts expressed here are purely fictional. Nothing in this post is true except for me looking for my name in the FRESHLY PRESSED section hahaha

What gets better with age??? A different perspective

What gets better with age?

Topic #56

What gets better with age?

Bonuses: 1) What is something you thought would get better with age, that didn’t? 2) What is something you thought wouldn’t get better with age, that did?

Now the topic on wordpress daily post got me really amused coz whats the 1st quote that comes to your mind when you read the topic? "....gets better with age like wine"... Well Im no wine drinker so I have no clue as to how far this quote is true but then who am I say to say otherwise.

So what DOES get better with age? I say that its WE who get better with age. Now before you think that Im gonna get all philosophical, fear not coz Im not! If you think that Im gonna say that with age comes experience & with experience we learn & coz of that we mellow down then your wrong again... Coz what will a 27 yr old know anything about experience?????

Then why exactly do we become much better people as we age? It only coz of one reason & thats coz with time OUR MEMORY BECOMES WEAKER! And its this memory loss which makes us feel that all is good in life.

Just think... you're really angry & upset with someone today, you feel that there's nothing in this world that could make you more upset than just seeing the face of that individual. You vow never to see him/her again. (Mind you, Im talking only when someone has genuinely done some wrong to you) And you do infact cut them out of your life. But then what happens about a year or so later? You begin to question yourself as to whether what you did was right or wrong. You begin seeing the same person in a different light. You feel that all the wrong done previously was just some misunderstanding.

Well... Its not! Everything is just the same. The person is the same he/she was last year. The only thing that has changed is that you've forgotten the minute details, you remember only about the good things & forget the rest! Its not your fault, its your mind... And then you say the famous quote again "Forgive & forget"

Something About Nothing!

Ok its been a really long time since I’ve made my presence felt  & so here I am! And that’s obviously bad news. Today  Im gonna do something that’s gonna piss off 2 people coz that’s whats this post is meant to do J. I was sitting all by myself wondering…no wait, was it procrastinating or was it reflecting?  Ok I don’t exactly know what the latter two mean so Ill stick to “I was wondering” J Yeah now that that’s settled lets get on with the blog. So I was sitting & thinking, I mean wondering “Its been a while since someone really pissed me off, atleast a month maybe, when was the last time I wondered!!“  I swiveled my chair (yes I have a swivel chair) & my eyes landed on the table where unfortunately(for the ones Im talkin about)  my laptop was switched on & I saw facebook !!!! And there it was! Under the list of “FRIENDS” I saw some “Non Friends”. The list of all the people who I’ve felt like giving  an MTV“one tight slap” either now or in the past. Ofcourse there are a couple of people who aren’t in my list but that’s a story for some other time. So here goes, ofcourse I wont use the actual names coz that would be rude, wouldn’t it?  And its also a lot more fun to keep people guessing & making them procrastinate “is it me he’s talking about” (I told you I don’t know what that word means) Ofcourse they already know who they are so the rest of you don’t worry J

So the 1st one is …well lets call him Nosy. Now Nosy is called so for a reason but its not the reason you all are thinking about. That’s just for me. Now this kind of specimen is a very dangerous one coz you never really can predict or guess how they are, what they’ll do & when they’ll do. One minute they are your knicker buddies  & the next minute they are telling people that you resemble a monkeys behind! Now why they do that, don’t ask me. I think its better you ask Nosy or his shrink coz Im sure he has one. Now Nosy would surely blow his hat off after reading this which I know for sure he will once he finishes pretending that he’s busy. Yeah Nosy’s always busy, busy doing what? Just wandering around the city I guess coz that’s all he knows. You can ask him & he’ll explain it to you in his ever delightful way though be warned that that can take days at the speed (or the lack of it) that he talks. I’ve always felt that he makes the girls cringe when he opens his mouth to talk but Nosy tells me that he’s just awesome with the ladies but who am I to judge. Actually Im just pretending to be nice, I will judge him J but not today. Maybe Nosy needs to get a dog. Why? I don’t know, its just an observation

Now coming to the next one & this one belongs to the opposite gender. One of those typical so called blondes.  She thinks she’s the best but wouldn’t be able to tell a notebook from toilet paper. Lets call her Slutty J Why? Coz it sounds girly & also coz the name says it all. Now Slutty is one weird girl. She thinks that all the guys in the universe kiss the gorund she walks on. And when one of those guys shatter that myth of hers  she’ll just go around  telling her friends “He’s crazy about me, but Im not interested in him” Wake up & smell the coffee or rather those fumes that you blow woman! Nobody is interested in you, except maybe for those losers you hang out with! This one will do anything to draw your attention & I mean ANYTHING. From questionable outfits to questionable doubts! She’ll try it all! Does she need to get a dog too? Im not gonna answer that coz that would tell everyone who she is hahaha. Damn Im funny, nobody cracks me up as much as me.

So there you have it. This is just the beginning. There’s more to come. This was just to get the ball rolling & also increase the hits on my blog. What can I do, I’m a li’l devil too. Ta da!

ARE WE FREE???

Girls shouldn’t be visiting pubs, couples shouldn’t be holding hands, Hindu girls shouldn’t speak to Muslim guys, a guy & girl seen somewhere together should either be married or be siblings…….This is what the world has come to or rather what Mangalore has come to since its our world. We are supposed to be FREE people. We read it in our high school textbooks don’t we? “ India is one of the largest democracies in the world” We spend so much time studying all those things about democracy & being able to do whatever we want unlike a China , to grow up & be beaten up for trying to live what we studied back then!

Its come to a stage where people are genuinely scared! Forget going out with your girlfriend, now the youngsters fear even going out in a group inclusive of guys & girls…. The question we seem to be asking everytime is “do you think the beach is safe” , “is it ok to go to the mall”…..I mean A BEACH for Gods sake! What can be a more open place than a beach?

Today there is talk that the attacks on the girls at the pub was coz they weren’t following the “Indian culture” ….huh? Beating up women is “Indian culture” Oh yeah I guess it is just like those sari clad women at home who get beaten up by their drunk husbands for religiously following the “Indian culture”....Valentines day is just round the corner & we are scared that somethings might go wrong that day....ARE WE FREE???
